The Symphony Orchestra is a select ensemble that meets regularly within the school day. Students audition in February/early March for the next school's ensemble. They will rehearse and perform rigorous literature drawn from the canon of orchestral repertoire throughout music history. The group has travelled and recently performed in Barcelona, Spain in 2018 as well as previous travels to Italy (2010) and Vienna, Salzburg and Prague (2014) The group competed in the National Orchestra Festival in Tampa, FL in 2016 and was a featured honors ensemble at the NAfME All-Eastern Division Conference in Baltimore MD in April, 2011. The group has also performed in Woolsey Hall, Yale University and Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood in Massachusetts. They have also commissioned a work by Elliot Del Borgo, "Visions of Dance" which is available through C. Alan Publications. Although not a requirement, most of the students study privately and pursue orchestral music further through additional outside ensembles. Parents, please consider joining our Music Boosters organization. The music department services over 55% of the school student population and all we do would not be possible without the support of our parents organization. Their role is even more important as we prepare for a new facility in the fall of 2015.
All students (cellists and bassists, usually) who use school-owned instruments are asked to complete the following rental agreement and return it with the user fee of $100. Students may NOT select their school instrument until the fee has been paid.
